In 1660, animals were used to test if humans needed air to live, which was not known by that time.

In 1920, Edgar Adrian won a nobel prize for his findings proving the way the brain sends signals for communication.
There were much opposition, however animal test continued. In much recent years, known as PETA, there is an advocacy group that protects animals from animal testing. This has been a huge and wonderful step for animal testing.

  1. I believe animals has rights, but am not sure about where the line lays. This is because animals are being slaughtered for food, but this is part of the ecological chain, which is something natural, and can’t be changed. And some people say that we could get the same nutrients from alternative things, like soy, and that the situation could be changed. Another completely different perspective, is the case with pets. Some species are result of mutation during breeding (for example the Scottish Fold), and many people welcome them as pets not knowing that they could be having congenital issues.
